"I recently scanned the Web for ‘incredible things to do before you die’(just for fun) and marveled at what ‘other’ people put on their 'to do' list. Skydiving featured prominently in most lists; taking a leap-of-faith out of the cargo hold on an airplane at an altitude of about 30,000 and free falling for two minutes sounds exhilirating, but not something I would aspire to. Another popular 'must do' is climbing the great pyramid of Egypt, which seemed to me a more realistic endeavour, chiefly because I'm keen on history and not because I have latent desires to be a mountaineer. Imagine following in the footsteps of King Khufu to marvel at the engineering masterpiece of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Pyramid of Giza. Other extreme things recommended to do in one's lifetime include flying in a hot air balloon, swimming with dolphins, exploring Antarctica, fishing for blue marlin, diving with sharks, traveling into space – all of which really sound fascinating. However, one critical 'thing to do before you die' that is not mentioned on any of the lists I read is to write and publish 'your life, your story'. What is more adventurous than expressing one's innermost thoughts to paper? Emotional writing done privately can be very therapeutic. Research has shown that writing deep thoughts and feelings about stressful events can help people relieve stress, have a more positive outlook on life and boost their immune system."
